The goal of the Agassiz-Harrison Swim Club is to bring families together. Most individual activities mean that families are pulled in different directions all year long. This is one group where all ages can participate and “hang out together” in the summer. We emphasize health and fitness as part of everyday life. We hope that each swimmer will build strong lasting friendships within the club and learn lessons on how to handle winning and losing gracefully. Although it is nice to win, the emphasis is on being supported to achieve their personal best times and continually improve their techniques.
We are a competitive and non-competitive swim club. There are six swim meets scheduled over the course of the summer throughout the Fraser Valley. The season winds up with the regional and provincial championships. Each family can decide how many swim meets they participate in. We do encourage swim meets because it is one of the best ways to make friends and get to know families and they are a lot of fun. All members of the swim club are eligible and encouraged to attend our own swim meet scheduled on the June 18-19 weekend this year, 2011.
We are a non-profit, parent run swim club which started in 1978 and we are a member of the B.C. Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA). The club promotes development of swimmers 5 years to adult. We train Monday-Friday at the outdoor pool in Agassiz from May through to mid-August . This year the provincial championships will take place in Richmond.
