In Memory: Kristine (Kristy) Rosalyn Hatt

May 21, 1985 ~ February 22, 2004

Kristy loved swimming and was a member of BCSSA. Kristy swam with the Agassiz Harrison Aquanauts for fourteen years, always as strong competitive swimmer and later as a coach. Kristy attended many BCSSA Provincial Championships, earning medals in both freestyle and breaststroke. She was passionate about swimming and spent the winters waiting to get back to the pool. She loved seeing her swim pals from throughout the Fraser Valley and all over BC when she attended various meets. Kristy also swam at the BC Summer Games in Victoria in 2000, where she earned herself a set of medals and made many more wonderful friends.

Kristy shared her love for swim club with all of her siblings and four of her cousins, but especially with her sister, Amy, all of whom have been long-time Aquanauts members. She encouraged all of them, as well as the entire club, to work hard and have lots of fun doing it. Besides swimming, Kristy spent a great deal of time around water. In 2003 she became a valued member of the OUC rowing team. She enjoyed surfing, snorkeling and sun tanning in Hawaii, as well as white water rafting on the Thompson River and hanging out on Harrison Lake. Kristy’s summer jobs were always as a lifeguard, both at the local water slides and pools in both Agassiz and Chilliwack.

Kristy along with her sister, Amy and teammates Whitney and Heather formed a great relay team and Kristy played a major role in getting this team to BC Provincial Championships many times. Over the years some members of the team changed, but Kristy and Amy remained constant teammates.

In Kristy’s memory, the Agassiz Harrison Aquanauts have renamed their annual swim meet to the Kristy Hatt Memorial Swim Meet and pink backstroke flags hanging over the center lane of the pool. Many of the members of the swim team wear pink swim caps and sport a small pink heart on the team uniforms in a display that touches the hearts of so many who loved her.
